This section aims to give visibility to bike routes that often remain off the radar, routes that are not defined by popularity, speed, or competition, but by the experience they offer and the relationship they build with the territory.
Tepetl Routes are a diverse mix of curated rides, published with our high standard of values and attention to detail. While we aim to establish an archive of the more ‘standard’ forms of traversing and traveling through well-known areas, the routes will still be rather unconventional than the typical or more obvious ways to arrive. A focus on secondary roads and avoiding more transited thoroughfare will always be present. Large portions of these routes may be off the radar, and not defined by popularity, speed, or competitive elements, but more intently focused on the experience they offer as a dynamic whole, and the relation they begin to build to more comprehensively understand the territory.
Routes take time to imagine, test, understand, and re-work into a final product. Many of these routes are to be done in a single day, while others may unfold over weeks, but all of them are shaped by local knowledge and careful observation. All routes originate from GPX tracks of actual rides, will follow consistent guidelines, and will credit the individual(s) who helped shape the route, or parts of its understanding.
By documenting these routes, we aim to make them accessible to others who ride with curiosity and respect. This is not about collecting lines on a map, but about offering guidance that helps people experience places thoughtfully, understand the context they move through, and build their own connection with the land.
Through documentation of routes, we strive to provide useful, open access to information for curious and respectful individuals. This is not about simply collecting lines on a map, but offering comprehensive guidance that helps people experience places more thoughtfully, understand the context they move through, and build their own connection with the land.
Tepetl Routes are an invitation to slow down and to ride with more intention with collective knowledge.
